Hello World

I'm Steve Charlesworth, a Data professional with 20+ years of experience. In my professional journey I started as a software developer but discovered that really wasn't 'my thing'. On one of my early jobs, I had to put together a database for some research chemists and this introduced me to MySQL and relational databases in general. From there I took on roles including BI Developer/Analyst, SQL Server DBA, Data Architect, and my personal favorite, Data Scientist, where my tech background meshed with my educational background (mathematics and statistics) very nicely.

Recently, I found myself in a situation where leadership prioritized a pure software development approach over the analytical rigor and experimentation that makes data science effective, an arrangement that was untenable. I'm now excited to find my next opportunity. It may or may not have the official title 'Data Scientist'. If it involves the pursuit of meaningful answers to business questions and ensuring the best quality data and methods go into that pursuit, as the mathematician Erdõs used to say when showing up at a friend's door to collaborate: 'My brain is open!'
